Depart to Mysore, you will be charmed by the faded grandeur of Mysore, the former capital of the much loved Wodeyars dynasty who reigned from the 16th century. A city rich in heritage, make sure you discover its royal palaces, sacred temples and majestic buildings but leave time to stroll through some of its many parks and gardens or along a wide leafy boulevard. Evening head up Chamundi Hill for panoramic views of the city spread out below before exploring the exquisite hilltop temple dedicated to the goddess, Chamundi and dominated by a 40m-high gopuram (tower). Today we head to National park. Abundant beauty and the wealth of wildlife make Kabini an interesting wildlife destination. Situated on the banks of river Kabini, it adjoins the Nagarhole National Park also forming a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Less known than Bandipur, it has fewer visitors, which makes it even more appealing. Providing shelter to tigers, leopards, elephants, sloth bears, bison and the likes, it was once the favorite hunting ground of the Maharaja of Mysore. Today you will drive to Hassan, the temple architectural capital of the state. The place named Hassan after the Goddess "Haasanamba", the goddess and presiding deity of the town. Afternoon we proceed to the two remote and beautiful temple sites of Belur and Halebid and learn the technique to cover Architecture & sculpture, at the heart of the Hoysala Empire, date from the 12th century and together form perhaps the richest repository of Hindu art and sculpture in the country. The facades are richly decorated with intricate stone carvings and the interiors are filled with countless filigreed pillars and friezes depicting tales from the Ramayana and the Mahabarata Once the Hoysala capital during the 11th and 12th centuries, admire the fine architecture of the Channakeshava temple from this period, whose gopura (tower) reigns over a small town, often packed with pilgrims. The temple boasts intricate bas-reliefs whose detailing includes depictions of birds and animals, dancing figures and episodes from the great epics. You will stop enroute to have your packed lunch we head to Halebid On first viewing you may wonder how this small village could once have been the capital of the powerful Hoysala dynasty. Visit Hampi Bazaar area In this area find the most sacred of Hampi's temples and ghats. Look out for the columns of the original bazaar before entering Virupaksha Temple whose guporas dominate the bazaar. Join the pilgrims as they sing, pray and sleep in the shade of the colonnade surrounding the inner court. Before sunrise follow the ancient pathway, past imposing Tiruvengalanatha Temple, up Matanga Hill, for the best vantage point in the area. Kamapularam area Here you will find an extraordinary array of palaces, pavilions and temples. Imagine the sumptuous ceremonies, parades and musical performances, overseen by the king, that took place at the pyramid-shaped Mahanavami Dibba. Nearby, the two-storey Lotus Mahal women's quarters, or zenana, was where the queen relaxed and observed the elephant stables from the upstairs windows.
