9 Days Wildlife Migration Safari (Plains & Migration)

9 Days Wildlife Migration Safari (Plains & Migration)

Experience the annual wildlife Migration safari in the World famous Masai Mara...combine this with Magnificent views of the Kilimanjaro on the backdrop as you watch elephants in the small but photogenic Amboseli National Park...

Day 1: Nairobi- Amboseli-4h

Amboseli National Park provides the classic Hollywood image of Africa. Set in rolling savannah scenery it is dwarfed by the presence of the pink-tinged, snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro which, at 5,896 meters, is the highest free-standing mountain in the world and topped by one fifth of all the ice in Africa. Against this magnificent backdrop roam vast herds of elephant accompanied by a kaleidoscope of other fabulous beasts -lion, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, baboon, gazelle hippo and wildebeest to name but a few. There are also over 400 species of birds, all manner of reptilian, flora and fauna and some of the most soul-searing views in Africa. Pick up from the Airport on arrival or After breakfast from your hotel, drive through the busy Nairobi-Momba Road to Amboseli national park. The park lies at the base of snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro and is renowned for its large population of elephant. Amboseli is in the centre of Maasai land, and during your drive you will pass Maasai warriors and herdsmen who continue with their nomadic life, apparently oblivious to the modern world. Lunch will be served at the camp. . Freshen up in your room or soak in the fabulously constructed swimming pool overlooking the Snow Capped Mt. Kilimanjaro, before an introductory late afternoon game drive app 1630hrs in the Park with a perfect view of Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro in the backdrop! Day 2:Amboseli National Park

Rising early for good views of Mount Kilimanjaro before clouds build up over the summit with packed lunch provided, an Optional visit to a Masai village can be planned after breakfast. A visit reveals the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals. A glimpse into their homes and social structure is a poignant experience. Despite its changing habitat, Amboseli National Park is possibly the best wildlife area in the whole of Africa to experience elephants at close range. Left un harassed by poachers, elephants feeding and bathing in the swamps must form the highlights of any Safari. We will leave the camp with picnic lunches and a full day game drive in the park- Lunch will be then served at the Observation Hill. Day 5: Masai Mara

After breakfast, we leave with our packed picnic lunches for a full day game drive in the Masai Mara. The Masai Mara is the Jewel in the Crown of East Africa, forever to be associated with vast numbers of game - the greatest wildlife experience of all. Year round the Masai Mara Reserve is host to an enormous concentration of animals, boosted by the famous wildebeest and zebra migration during July/August/October. All the Big Cats, Elephant, Black Rhino and thousands of plains game spread out before you - it's better than the Discovery Channel because you are part of the spectacle. The birds are fantastic - from the giant Martial Eagle, to the ground Hornbill and a myriad of other diverse species. The Mara is undoubtedly Hollywood Africa, grass plains interspersed with Migunga and Croton thickets, rolling hills and small kopjes, islands in the sea of grass abound. Small rivers feed massive fig trees on their banks. This is the northernmost extension of the Serengeti ecosystem and is a microhabitat in its own right. Here during the months of July to December you witness the spectacle of the migration of a million and a half Wildebeest and Zebra, with all their attendant carnivores, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Hyena and possibly Wild Dog. The rest of the year is no less exciting as the Lion and Leopard remain resident and are commonly seen hunting plains game that include Thompson and Grants Gazelle, Coke's Hartebeest, Topi, Eland, Waterbuck, great herds of Wildebeest and groups of the chestnut coated Impala. From here, you can also visit Elsamere & Crescent Island game sanctuary. This afternoon we visit the Crescent Island Sanctuary . We explore this beautiful Island on foot, spotting the numerous birds and wildlife found here. Crescent Island is home to some 200 species of birds, including healthy numbers of fish eagles, cormorants and pelicans, among others. 7-Day Victoria Falls, Chobe & Okavango Delta Safari - We had chosen this tour (or similar) the weekend before our departure - We sent several enquiries on Friday evening and we intended to fly on Tuesday. Matthew was one of the first to response to our message and he worked during the weekend to answer our numerous questions and requests (we had requested to cut off the Vic Falls part as we have other plans in the area). Finally we confirmed on Monday and off we go on Tuesday. We did not know what to expect. Everyone we met. i.e., the local agents arranged by Mathew (Mathew is based in Kenya and our destinations were Zimbabwe/ Zambia/ Botswana) were professional, patience and knowledgeable. They made sure our questions were answered and our transfers smooth. This is a good trip for us as we did not want to spend too much time in transfers and we thoroughly enjoyed Chobe (a popular National park) and Okavango Delta (we had 3 very peaceful walking safaris and mokoro ride). Accommodation recommendations were good - Chobe Safari Lodge and the Oddballs - You just have to tell Mathew your expectations and budgets and he would work it out for you even in short notice. We thank Mathew and his teams (obviously, he has good network in the continent). Highly recommended (both the tour and this agent). Read more
