DAY 1: COCHIN (KOCHI) - MUNNAR Once you arrive at Cochin, you will be met by our representative and transferred to the picturesque township of Munnar, famous for tea estates. Located 1,600 metres above the sea level, this hill station is a slice of India’s historic past: this was once the summer resort of the erstwhile British government in south India. Sprawling tea plantations, picture-perfect towns, winding lanes and holiday facilities make this a popular holiday destination. Once you check in at a hotel for a two-night stay, you have the rest of the day to spend as you wish. DAY 2: SIGHTSEEING AT MUNNAR After a sumptuous breakfast, you will begin the day’s itinerary with a sightseeing trip that covers the verdant Eravikulam National Park, the natural habitat of the local ibex, the Nilgiri Tahr. Once you’ve had your fill, it’s on to the Mattupetty dam, Echo Point and the rest of the town. Then head back to the hotel for an overnight stay. DAY 3: MUNNAR - THEKKADY After breakfast, you have a busy day of travel ahead of you. Today, you will leave for Thekkady, the venue of the famous Periyar (Thekkady) Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the most well-maintained wildlife sanctuaries of south India. Spread out over an area of 777 sq km, the sanctuary boasts of a splendid artificial lake formed by the Mullaperiyar dam across the Periyar river, which adds to the charm of the park. This is the only sanctuary in India where you can have the unique experience of viewing wildlife at close quarters as you cruise along the lake in the confines of a boat. Once you reach, check in at hotel for the night, you have the afternoon free to enjoy that boat ride on Periyar lake. Otherwise you can opt for a short trek into the fragrant spice plantations. Overnight at hotel. DAY 4: THEKKADY - ALLEPPEY After breakfast, check out for the drive to Alleppey, the home of the much-vaunted backwaters of Kerala. You have a surprise awaiting your arrival – a stay on a houseboat for an overnight in the scenic backwaters of Alleppey! It’s a journey that holds out much promise: cruising through palm-fringed canals; watching people at work in the paddy fields; relaxing on board as you are lulled into comfort by the sounds of the wind and waves. Cruise till the evening, by which time the houseboat halts in the lake for overnight stay. DAY 5: ALLEPPEY – KOVALAM After breakfast you will leave Alleppey for the palm-fringed beach of Kovalam, one of the most famous beach towns in India. The boundless blue waters of the Arabian Sea and miles of white sand washed away by the surf, make this beach a veritable paradise on earth, one that abounds in beauty and a veritable treasure trove of activities. If you are of an adventurous bent, then you can partake of some snorkelling or cycling. Alternatively, if you wish to lie back and relax, then there is an unmissable catamaran ride or sunset viewing. Check into a hotel for a two-night stay. DAY 6: KOVALAM – THIRUVANANTHAPURAM - KOVALAM Today, you spend the day sightseeing the city of Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), the capital city of Kerala, which still preserves the ancient roots of Kerala life. You can still glimpse the relics of ancient architecture prominent in most of its buildings. View the Padmanabhaswamy temple area (open to everyone), the Horse Palace and Napier Museum. Drive back to Kovalam. Overnight at hotel. DAY 7: KOVALAM – THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Today, you leave for the Trivandrum Airport to connect your onward flight.
