LECHWE SAFARI - 8 Nights

Arrive - Fly from Maun to Kwetsani

Island tree-houses on beautiful floodplainsLocated in the centre of the Jao Concession, Kwetsani Camp is situated on an elongated island covered with palm, mangosteen and fig trees. The surrounding floodplains are home to a number of “Delta specials” – species that are found in few other places on Earth. Some of these may even be seen from the privacy of one of the five “tree-house” chalets, beautifully furnished en-suite units each comprising a bedroom and lounge, and made of canvas, wood and glass. The raised dining room, lounge and bar area, from where sweeping vistas of the surrounding floodplains stretch to the horizon, often catches the gentle breeze blowing across the waving reeds. A plunge pool with loungers is just right for those sunny afternoon siestas. Water based activities include boating, traditional mokoro's, walks and game drives - subject to water levels. Read more

Porcupine, aardwolf, serval, large spotted genet and lesser bushbaby are just some of these. Mokoro Excursions* There is no better way of viewing the Delta and its wildlife than by traditional mokoro (dugout canoe), often revealing the smaller critters of the Okavango Delta and fascinating waterbirds of the region. In summer, guests are driven to the water for this activity. *This activity is water-level dependent. Boating* Boating is another idyllic form or water wildlife viewing often yielding fabulous sightings of hippo and crocodile and maybe even the elusive sitatunga. *This activity is water-level dependent. Fly from Kwetsani to Chitabe

A classic Okavango game-viewing destination, Chitabe Camp is situated in a private concession area on an island in the south-east of the Okavango Delta. Playing host to a breathtaking mosaic of open floodplains, waterways, marshlands, dry acacia and mopane woodland, riverine forest and open grasslands, the area is famed for its incredible numbers and diversity of wildlife, in particular predators. The camp’s eight spacious Meru-style tents are built on elevated wooden decks amongst trees. Each tent has twin beds, en-suite facilities and an indoor as well as an outdoor shower. The thatched dining, pub and lounge areas are built on raised decks to provide superb views across the floodplain, and a pool allows you to cool off in the heat of the day. Fly from Chitabe to Savute

Experience the wonders of the Savute Channel! Savuti Camp is situated in the private Linyanti Concession along the Savute Channel, famous as a sporadic and unusual watercourse. Between 1980 and 2008 it stopped flowing altogether, creating a ribbon of grassland. Surprisingly, the Channel began to flow once more, becoming a deep, clear waterway harbouring hippo and aquatic life while wildlife had to adapt to a new source of water and all the opportunities and menaces it brought with it. Of recent the channel has dried up again proving how dynamic the delta is. This intimate camp's en-suite accommodation is in seven large walk-in tents, including a family unit that is raised off the ground. From the camp's thatched dining area, a small pool and large viewing area with fire deck extend outwards on raised wooden decks, providing a wonderful view of the Channel and its wildlife. Game drives and walks. Water activities are subject to water levels. Read more

I have traveled many places and spent several years in Africa. It is a place that draws me back time and time again. Jamie's experience and planning we were able to watch the African sun set with a leopard, sit and watch painted dogs and their pups hunting and playing and an elephant swim across the Chobe River. Our meals, accommodation and transport were all enjoyable and exceeded our expectations. Jamie's knowledge of the African bush and wildlife is incredible and has us returning for another safari in 2015! He is a pleasure to deal with and very informative and supportive during the planning and booking stage as well. I highly recommend Jamie Thom Conservation Safaris to anyone intending to travel to Africa and I have done so personally to all my friends! Read more

It was great to stay at 2 different lodges at Kwandwe and being ushered off to our first game drive before checking into our lodges was more than welcome. Despite the unexpectedly cooler weather, the wildlife at the reserve was remarkable. The transfer from Zambia to the Elephant Camp was seamless and in addition to the beautiful Vic Falls, the morning walk with Sylvester, the cheetah, was truly amazing. Botswana definitely provided much warmer weather and the wildlife there was very special. We thoroughly enjoyed the mokoro and seeing the diverse bird life, leopards as well as a pride of 10 lions together were just some of the additional highlights while there Read more

It's hard for me to settle back into my life at home after such an exhilarating trip through East Africa! Our group was ideal size of 8 and a mixture of well experienced Africa travelers and first timers. The pre-departure information was so good the newbies were just as prepared as the others. Everything ran like clockwork, the camp staff and drivers were fantastic, catering to all our needs with a smile, and their own personal experience and knowledge was clearly extensive. The vehicles were well equipped with charging facilities, fridges and they were water tight (a consideration if you are traveling in rainy seasons...). The timing of the trip was perfect as the game viewing far out stripped our expectations. Jamie's experience as a tour operator and as a professional photographer made this trip a safari of a life time for me. Read more
