These sites will include the “Plaza Botero" the famous Botero sculpture park where many giant sculptures of Colombia most famous artist and Medellin born sculptor Fernando Botero are exhibited. A ride on the city’s famous metro and cable car system will not only provide great views of the city but will be a chance to understand a bit more about the geography and social make up of Colombia's second city. You will be met from your hotel by your guide and taken directly to the local airport for your flight to Bahía Solano. Bahia Solano is a small jungle town located on the Pacific coast. The population is largely of African descent. The principal industry of the town is fishing and the slowly developing tourist trade. This is a simple little town and the infrastructure is minimal however for anyone wanting to gain an insight in to the region and its cultures so different from that of the rest of the country it’s a great place to start. On arrival you will meet your local guide at airport and will be transferred to the El Almejal Reserve & Lodge for 3 nights (all meals included). Every year whales living in the waters in the Antarctic of the southern coast of Chile begin their 8000km migration up to the Colombian Pacific coast to give birth and raise their young. The whales are humpbacks often considered the most emblematic of the whale family, growing up to 18m and weighing over 25 tons. The season in Colombia runs from July through to November and this section of Colombian coast is some of the best in the world for spotting these amazing creatures. You will take a trip out in to the water of the Pacific looking for the whales, often, due to the density of population they are encountered with considerable ease. You will have time to watch, observe and photograph these mammals. Of all the animal encounters the world has to offer few come close to the sight of a giant humpback breaching in the open water. As part of your stay at El Almejal you will be invited to visit the nearby Nature Reserve, and you will also be taken on a trip to see the Cascadas del Tigre. You will also be able to participate in the Turtle protection scheme run by the hotel and should you wish you can go deep sea fishing, dolphin spotting, bird watching and jungle trekking, if you have the time after relaxing in your hammock. After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport to take your flight back to Medellín. On arrival you will be met by your English-speaking guide and transferred directly to the hotel Florencia Plaza for the last night. The rest of the day is at your leisure.
