Depart from Taipei in the morning, today we are heading to Qingjing, a mountain village situated at elevation 1,748 meters above sea level in the center of the island, also widely known as the Alps of Taiwan. The farm was established in 1961 by the Veterans Affairs Council, as place to settle down the demobilized soldiers and their dependents who retreated from the armed forces in the southwestern border of China. Qingjing Farm offers exquisite scenes all four seasons of the year, each with its own unique interest, and just by following your steps you can enjoy them all: Mountain Reflection in Green Lake, 487-Steps Trail, Clouds Covering the Mountain, Green Green Grasslands, Fragrance of Fruit Orchards, Sincere Heart Makes Wishes Come True. Here you can fully savor the sweet tranquility of the high-mountain countryside. Green Green Grassland: Known as a “Foggy Eden” far away from the city area in the mountains, Qingjing Farm is great for those who enjoy fresh air, lush forests, acre of flowers along the plains and hillside, and beautiful starry nights. Located in the northern section of Qingjing Farm is Green Green Grassland, which is an open pasture ground for livestock such as sheep and cows to roam and graze freely. Breakfast in the farm house, this morning you may choose to explore the surroundings by yourself, or take an optional tour to Hehuanshan, a 3,416-meter-high mountain, that allows people to have a magnificent view of the mountainscapes. Hehuanshan: Hehuanshan is a 3,416-metre-high (11,207 ft) mountain in Central Taiwan. The peak lies on the boundaries of Nantou and Hualien counties and is within the Taroko Gorge National Park. Hehuanshan is a popular destination for the local people of central Taiwan. The 3,421-metre East Peak and 3,422-metre North Peak of Hehuanshan are actually both higher than the main peak. (Optional, extra payment: 3 hours: US$ 50 / per person, subject to weather conditions.) Fruit-picking: Taiwan is well-known for fruit cultivation. From spring to winter, varieties of fruits are readily available throughout the whole year. Don't miss this chance to pick your own fruits and taste the rich flavor of the fresh seasonal fruits. Depart from Taipei in the morning, today you will take the high-speed train and head down south to the 2nd biggest city of Taiwan - Kaohsiung. Our bus driver will be waiting at the train station upon arrival. The first stop is Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum, constructed by the Venerable Master Hsing Yun to enshrine the Buddha’s relic. The museum is composed of a front hall, 8 pagodas, a main hall and a magnificent statue of Buddha, with Vulture Peak in the south and Japanese Garden in the north. Pier-2 Art Center, once an abandoned and forgotten warehouse. With a group of artists injected creative inspiration into this place, today the warehouse is reborn as a place where tourists and locals can come together to enjoy fine arts. Then take the ferry to Cijing Island, an offshore island of Kaohsiung. Experience the fun of a cycle rickshaw ride through the streets. After a nostalgic tour in Cijing Island, it’s time to fulfill your appetite with some local delicacies at Liuhe Night Market, the oldest and most typical night market in Kaohsiung. After breakfast in the hotel, this morning you are going to the south of the border – Kenting, a tropical paradise to have a romantic getaway. Hengchun(literally meaning eternal spring) is the best-preserved historical town in Taiwan. The relic was listed as an official historic monument in the year of 1985, which retains its original gates and ramparts since the Qing Dynasty. Maobitou(literally meaning cat’s nose), a natural rock formation in the shape of a crouching cat. Built during the Qing Dynasty, Oulanpi is noted for the lighthouse, which was listed as one of the Eight Views of Taiwan during the period under Japanese administration. Longpan Park, a coral limestone tableland eroded by rainwater. The park keeps the original features of the landscape with wide grassland faces the Pacific Ocean. Read more
After breakfast in the hotel, going on a historic tour in Tainan, the oldest city in Taiwan and commonly known as the “Capital City”. The first stop is Fort Provintia, which was listed as an official historic monument in 1983. The fortress was originally constructed by the Dutch in 1653 then destroyed and rebuilt during the Qing Dynasty and the period under Japanese administration. Koxinga Shrine is was built in 1662 during the Ming Dynasty in the memory of achievement of Cheng Cheng Kung, which is also the only Fujianese style shrine in Taiwan. Fort Zeelandia was built by the Dutch East India Company during their 38-year rule of the western part of Taiwan. The original fortress was nearly destroyed by the British army during the 19th century then reconstructed by the Japanese. Near Fort Zeelandia is the famous Anping Tree House, which used to be the warehouse of the former Tait & Co. Merchant House. After being abandoned for many years, the building was taken over by banyan trees. The aerial roots reach the structures deeply and become a part of the building. As the name implies this indeed is the Best of Taiwan tour. Exceptional 5-star lodging in Sun-Moon Lake, Chihpen and Taroko with indigenous performance, simple but rich in contents. Our tour guide: Daniel Yu, and bus driver: Andy, were some of the most hard working travel staff that we enjoyed so much. The local tour company Viator chosen: Edison Travel, is top notched, The travel schedule is tight but well paced, we particularly like the carefully selected travel spots composed of nature beauties, religious landmark, geographic wonders and the roar of Pacific. Our only complaint is not about the tour but the flight it took seventeen hours straight flight to get from US to Taipei, so it would be better to be in Taipei a couple days earlier to get some rest before the trip.
