In only five days you'll have the chance to visit the capital city of Tibet with its world famous landmarks and the "great three" Gelugpa monasteries of Tibet: Drepung, Sera and Ganden. Located at an altitude of 3800 metres, Ganden Monastery lies in a natural amphitheatre, offering dramatic views over the Kyi-Chu Valley to pilgrims and travellers.
You're warmly welcome to Tibet: 'Tashi Delek'! Get picked up at the airport or the train station and driven to your hotel in Lhasa. Here you can rest to acclimatize to the high altitude for the rest of the day. In the evening you're invited to a Tibetan style dinner!
In the morning we'll visit the famous Potala Palace and explore its stunning chapels. Residence of the Dalai Lamas until the 1959 Tibetan uprising, it's now a museum and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its magnificence and architectural wonder will leave you breathless. In the afternoon we'll visit the spiritual heart of Tibet, Johkang Temple, and its surrounding kora, Barkhor. On the third day, we'll visit the two most important Gelugpa monasteries of Tibet, which to this day are renowned places of learning and training of scholars. If we're lucky, we may witness debating monks in the Sera Monastery. This is an old tradition that takes place in a garden near the assembly hall in the afternoon. Read more
On the fourth day, we'll drive about 50 km east of Lhasa to get to Ganden Monastery, the fist of the “great three” Gelugpa monasteries, to this day renowned place of learning and training of scholars. We'll explore the monastery and enjoy the dramatic views over the surrounding valleys. After the visit, we'll head back to Lhasa to spend the night. Read more
