Visit the Holy City of Lhasa, capital of Tibet. Here you'll explore the ancient Tibetan culture in the most important monasteries and temples. This tour will also take you to pristine Namtso Lake, the highest saltwater lake in the world. Known as the "heavenly lake", for centuries it's been a destination of Tibetan pilgrims and to this day its pristine turquoise blue waters and the surrounding scenery attract many visitors.
You're warmly welcome to Tibet: 'Tashi Delek'! Get picked up at the airport or the train station and driven to your hotel in Lhasa. Here you can rest to acclimatize to the high altitude for the rest of the day. In the evening you're invited to a Tibetan style dinner!
In the morning we'll visit the famous Potala Palace and explore its stunning chapels. Residence of the Dalai Lamas until the 1959 Tibetan uprising, it's now a museum and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its magnificence and architectural wonder will leave you breathless. In the afternoon we'll visit the spiritual heart of Tibet, Johkang Temple, and its surrounding kora, Barkhor. On the third day, we'll visit the two most important Gelugpa monasteries of Tibet, which to this day are renowned places of learning and training of scholars. If we're lucky, we may witness debating monks in the Sera Monastery. This is an old tradition that takes place in a garden near the assembly hall in the afternoon. Read more
On the fourth day of the tour, we will drive the scenic route to Namtso Lake, past Nagenla Mountain (5190 m) which is the perfect spot to admire the lake. Enjoy the unique beauty and peace with a stroll along the lakeside. In the evening we will watch the breathtaking sunset and spend the night in a guesthouse or tent. Read more
The fifth day of your tour begins with the fantastic sunrise over Namtso Lake. We will then make our way back to Lhasa. We will drive past Yangpachen Hot Springs; if interested, we can stop for a bath before heading back.
After breakfast, your tour guide and driver will drop you off at Lhasa airport or train station according to your travel plans. Your Tibet tour comes to an end today.
