The region of Bahia is full of treasures with incredible landscapes and an amazing mix of cultures. The capital Salvador has a contagious energy and is the heart of the Afro-Brazilian culture. The Chapada Diamantina National Park is one of the oldest geological sites on the continent. This playground provides a variety of activities, such as trekking. Then, the Bahiana coast and the southern islands are a perfect place to enjoy some relaxing days.

Airport pick up by your English-speaking guide and transfer to the hotel. End of the day free to enjoy the beaches of the Barra neighborhood.

Salvador / City tour

Visit of the area best representing the heart and soul of Salvador with your English-speaking guide. With the influences of its African origins, the city has built a unique identity in Latino America, with a daily life animated by capoeira rythms and the religious festivities of the candomblé. In the morning, visit the lower parts of town: the farol (lighthouse) da Barra, the Sao Joaquim market, the Bonfim church, the animated popular area of Ribeira. After lunch, visit of the higher parts of town, with the Pelourinho histrorical area. Its prestigious architectural ensemble was renovated in its original bright colors and has superb colonial houses and many baroque churches. You will finish the afternoon at the base of the Lacerda elevador, the crossing of the lower and upper parts of the city, with a shopping time at the Mercado Modelo. Read more

Salvador & the Recôncavo

Departure with your English-speaking guide to go to Cachoeira, one of the colonial pearls of the North East. You will drive inland and start to feel the typical ambiance of the Recôncavo Baiano. On your way to Cachoeira, you will cross sugar cane, manioc and tobacco plantations, some of which being many centuries old. Your guide will make you discovering the rich historical past of the town, which was for a time the capital of the state of Bahia. You will then cross the Rio Paraguaçu to walk through the narrow streets of São Felix. Visit of the Dannemann cigar factory, over two centuries old, and offering an exhibition of contemporary art. On the way back to Salvador, you will stop in Santo Amaro, the birth town of the musician Caetano Veloso. Read more

Salvador- Chapada Diamantina

Bus departure at 07:00am to Lençóis. Founded at the time of the diamond rush, it is nowadays a charming colonial town with paved streets. At your arrival, you will be welcomed by your local English-speaking guide. In the afternoon, visit the town by foot. Crafting shops, jewels and local precious stones, an outstanding architecture are the charms of this tropical city with a XIXth century atmosphere. You will have the option to trek in the area, to the Serrano (where you can swim in the white water marmites) then to the Grizante river and its crystal water falls with colored sand beaches. Torrinha, Diabo & Pai Inacio

Departure from Lençóis with your English-speaking guide for a day excursion in a private vehicle around the great natural sites of the North of Chapada Diamantina. You will firstly stop at the cave of Torrinha, one of the most beautiful in Brazil. You will find there aragonite and gypsite formations unique in the world. Then, visit of Poço do Diabo (Well of the Devil). After lunch, on the way back, stop at Morro do Pai Inacio, symbol of the Chapada Diamantina. The climb takes 30 minutes, and from the summit you will enjoy the best panorama over the surrounding mountain ranges: Serra da Bacia, Mucugezinho, Sobradinho and the morros of Camelo and of Morrão. Gruta Azul & Mosquito falls

Leave de pousada at 08:30am with your English speaking guide. After one hour and a half driving through the morros (mounts), you reach the Poço Azul (blue well), famous for the blue color of its water and the ray of sunshine that reflects in it. You can even go in for a swim. In the afternoon, you will go to the Mosquito waterfall. There is a trail of 2km that ends by crossing a river with water coming up to your knees and a steep slope. The rocks of the waterfall make for natural swimming pools, surrounded by cliffs and forest. Read more

Fumaça Falls Hike

After a 70 km trip in a private vehicle, you will reach the peaceful village of Caete Açu, at the bottom of the Capão valley. The trek (5-hour hike) starts from there by the climb of the steep valley shoulders. When you arrive on the plateau, the hardest part will be behind you and you will then walk on flat ground until arriving to the edge of the precipice of Fumaça, one of the highest falls in Brazil with its 366 meters height. From the plateau, the fall drops into an enormous canyon covered with tropical vegetation. On the way back towards Lençóis, you will stop at the waterfall of Riachinho for an energising swim. Chapada Diamantina- Salvador

Free time in the morning. At midday, transfer to the bus terminal where you will board on the return bus to Salvador de Bahia (7-8-hours drive). Pick up at the bus station in Salvador and transfer to the hotel.

Boat to Morro de São Paulo

Transfer to the pier and departure (crossing in a catamaran). The Bay of Todos os Santos and the high areas of Salvador will disappear from view. After a 2-hour cruise, you will enter the narrow sand streets of Morro de São Paulo, with houses hanging from a tiny rock, animated day and night. End of the day free. Read more
