A full day of a Praia do Forte trip exploring the contrasts of a city where a two continent cultural heritage molds the way people lives today. First stop of the Praia do Forte trip will be at Barra, a vantage point where the ocean enters the All Saints Bay. Barra Lighthouse. Then Pelourinho the historical part of downtown. It is considered the largest and best preserved complex of colonial architecture in the Americas. A walk through the narrow, bustling streets lined with buildings in pastel shades of an age gone by; soaking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant city. The next stop of the Praia do Forte trip is the church of São Francisco / Saint Francis with an exuberant gold-leafed Baroque interior and Pelourinho square (Pillory), the very heart of colonial Salvador. After a break for lunch (not included), a drive to the lower city to visit the Itapagipe residential area and a visit to Igreja de Nosso Senhor do Bonfim (Church of Our Lord of Bonfim) Inaugurated in 1754. Famous and popular all over the country, it well represents the blend of two cultures and two religions. Dedicated to Jesus Christ, it is where the African religions venerate Oxalá, supreme divinity of candomblé. From this vantage point you can see most of Itapagipe Peninsula and from the next stop at Monte Serrat Fort, built in 1587 in medieval e colonial style the busy panorama of All Saints Bay.
