On day 1 get used to the spanish time. Walk the city of Barcelona and discover it at your own pace. In the guide book we'll send you there's lot of information on what to do and what to see on each of the areas you'll visit.
Today you'll have a wonderful tour through the city which includes tickets skip the line to some of the best works of Gaudi, the Sagrada Familia and Parc Güell. You'll also see the exteriors of Casa Batlló and Casa Milá, two other great works of this wonderful architect. For diner you'll visit the "spanish village" in Barcelona, a small corner where you'll see a little bit of all Spain where you'll find handcrafts, and buildings of each of the areas of Spain. Today you'll enjoy a great private tour. Early in the morning your guide will pick you up at your hotel. He'll take you to Montserrat, a magnificent sanctuary located in the mountains where you'll get some great views. You'll be able to get the ZIP train and go into the sanctuary to listen the Boy's Choir. After this experience you'll be taken to a winery in Penedés where you'll visit the facilities and will taste some great wines/cavas. You'll get a train to San Sebastián, a manorial city you'll love. Its Concha beach and the old quarter will delight you. Today, after you do the check - in at your hotel you'll enjoy a "pintxos" tour. Your local guide will take you to the old quarter where he'll explain you what to see in the old quarter and give a local view of the city. Another wonderful private tour: Cooking class. This is not the kind of touristy cooking class. It is much more than that. Our private cooking class happens in the most important and well known Gastronomic Club of San Sebastian, temple for foddies and where my partner is a member, so he can grant access for you to make a wonderful cooking class with a professional chef. The chef worked in Michelin starred restaurants in the past and has got a big knowledge of the traditional Basque cuisine, so you will be in good hands! Being a private class, we could arrange the desired menu but trying to offer a traditional basque lunch, this is what we offer: The day starts with a walking tour in the market, where you would buy some of the ingredients you would be using in the class and then, you would head to the Gastronomic Club located in the Old Town of San Sebastian. We would open a nice bottle of wine and would start the class. Let me tell you the class is quite informal, as you would be cooking in the same kitchen as the chef, and could be as participative as you want. The traditional menu is based in some appetizers you will buy in the market and will prepare and eat while cooking, Lobster Rice, Hake fish with clams and cheeks and a Pantxineta(almond and custard dessert), all paired with wine, or beer or whatever you fell like drinking. The town’s location, perched on the hills overlooking the sea, offers spectacular views that will stay in your memory forever. As dessert, you will savor the exceptional quality of another culinary icon of the area, Idiazabal cheese. You will visit a traditional artisan cheese producer high in the rolling Basque hills. The owner will show you around, you will take an intimate insight into the production, followed by a tasting of six artisan cheeses. Please understand this cheese factory is very small and some times they are producing so the visit is not possible. In your way to next destination a visit to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is a must. This place located close to Bilbao is a must see when visiting the Basque Country. A little hermitage located in an island that can be reached by a long stair. Bilbao, an example of modernism is also a must see. In the heart of the Rioja wine region we find Haro, the small village where you'll overnight and where you'll find some of the best wineries in Rioja. Hosted in a 4* superior hotel, a former monastery reconverted into this great hotel, you'll be able to taste some great wines at some of the wineries and taste the exceptional local gastronomy. Another wonderful, exclusive and private tour: You will be taken to a traditional winery where you will visit this singular winery and its cellars. They continue producing wine as in 1870, there is no a single piece of stainless steel in the whole winery. This is not a touristic visit, it is a private one where you will be able see things people usually don’t, ask to the professionals and taste some of its finest wines. Later you will be taken to another winery, usually another one more special (it could be the largest underground cellar in Spain, for instance). They do a really good tour (again not the touristic one) and open very good wines for the tasting. After all this you will be taken to Marqués de Riscal winery (so you can see the exteriors - is was designed by Frank Gehry, an example of modernism in wineries) and have lunch there (it has one michelin star) - food is not included and you can choose what you want to have lunch. After lunch you will be taken to a short visit to Laguardia, a small village, where you will be given a short guided tour through its medieval old quarter. Let's move to Castilla y León, another great area for wine lovers where there are several denominations of origin for wines. We'll get to know the Ribera de Duero denomination, probably the most popular one. You'll overnight in Valladolid. The historic centre of Valladolid conserves an important monumental and architectural heritage, particularly comprising noble houses and religious buildings. A highlight among these is the unfinished cathedral. In the old quarter there are several bars where you can taste different small bites of local food. Read more
Today you'll have another great private tour to taste wines from this area. You'll visit two different wineries and will taste up to 5 wines from them so you can see the differences between the two of them. After the tours you'll be taken to Penafiel, a small village with a wonderful castle (reconverted into the Museum of Wine) that you'll be able to visit before getting to the restaurant I'll book for you to taste the most traditional meal in the area, the roasted baby lamb!!
