Visit the capital city of Tibet, Lhasa, and enjoy the scenic drive along the Yarlung Tsang River to get to Samye Monastery. In only five days you'll experience the culture and beauty of this magic part of the world! You'll explore Lhasa and its major attractions and you'll go on a day trip to Samye Monastery, the first monastery ever built in Tibet! Not only of historical and religious importance, it's also famous for its unique mandala-like design.
You're warmly welcome to Tibet: 'Tashi Delek'! Get picked up at the airport or the train station and driven to your hotel in Lhasa. Here you can rest to acclimatize to the high altitude for the rest of the day. In the evening you're invited to a Tibetan style dinner!
In the morning we'll visit the famous Potala Palace and explore its stunning chapels. In the afternoon we'll go to the most sacred temple of Tibet, the Johkang Temple, and its surrounding kora, Barkhor. Here traditional Tibetan products and souvenirs can be bought.
On the third day, we'll visit the two most important Gelugpa monasteries of Tibet, which to this day are renowned places of learning and training of scholars. If we're lucky, we may witness debating monks in the Sera Monastery. This is an old tradition that takes place in a garden near the assembly hall in the afternoon. Read more
On the fourth day, we'll drive along the Yarlung Tsang (Brahmaputra River) across the high mountain meadow to reach Samye Monastery. We'll explore the monastery with its complicated layout and vivid murals. After the visit, we'll drive back to Lhasa to spend the night.
After breakfast, your tour guide and driver will drop you off at Lhasa airport or train station according to your travel plans. Your Tibet tour comes to an end today.
