You're warmly welcome to Tibet: 'Tashi Delek'! Get picked up at the airport or the train station and driven to your hotel in Lhasa. Here you can rest to acclimatize to the high altitude for the rest of the day. In the evening you're invited to a Tibetan style dinner!
In the morning we'll visit the famous Potala Palace and explore its stunning chapels. Residence of the Dalai Lamas until the 1959 Tibetan uprising, it's now a museum and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its magnificence and architectural wonder will leave you breathless. In the afternoon we'll visit the spiritual heart of Tibet, Johkang Temple, and its surrounding kora, Barkhor. On the third day, we'll visit the two most important Gelugpa monasteries of Tibet, which to this day are renowned places of learning and training of scholars. If we're lucky, we may witness debating monks in the Sera Monastery. This is an old tradition that takes place in a garden near the assembly hall in the afternoon. Read more
On the fourth day of your tour, we'll drive from Lhasa to Shigatse. Along this beautiful road we'll pass through the green farmland of the Nyang Chu Valley, across the Gampala Pass (4790 m) to get to Yamdrok Lake and Karola Glacier. We will then continue westward to Gyantse, where we'll pay a visit to the local Kumbum. After the visit, we'll head to Shigatse, where we'll spend the night. Read more
On the fifth day, we will head to Rongbuk Monastry. Along the scenic Friendship Highway (China-Nepal Highway), we will drive past Lhatse and Tingri, once important trading posts where sherpas from Nepal and Tibet exchanged goods. We will spend the night at Rongbuk Monastery Guesthouse or in a tent, where stunning views of the Himalaya can be enjoyed. Read more
We will start the sixth day of the tour watching the unforgettable sunrise from Rongbuk Monastery. We will then either take a bus or hike a 4 km way to the Everest Base Camp, built to provide a campsite for climbers and travellers. Here amazing pictures of the highest peak in the world can be taken. We will head back to Shigatse to spend the night. Read more
Before driving back to Lhasa, we will visit the famous Tashilhunpo Monastery, the largest monastery in Western Tibet and home to the Panchen Lama, the second most important spiritual leader of Tibet.
After breakfast, your tour guide and driver will drop you off at Lhasa airport or train station according to your travel plans. Your Tibet tour comes to an end today.
