Let your imagination soar in two magnificent workshops offered by Art Trail, an artistic and cultural development project where Cusco traditions are rescued and given new life in artistic sessions. In the first activity, Cusco Colonial Glazed Ceramics, learn how to make a horse or bull of Pucara, a traditional Cusco figure, and apply fine finishes with a layer of enamel, giving it a glazed effect. In the second, the Colonial Gold Leaf application, enjoy painting with the characteristic colours of the mountain range and then finish decorating your work with gold leaf, a traditional technique that Art Trail has recovered and applied to contemporary crafts. Both workshops are taught by renowned Cusco artists. By the end of the sessions, you will have two personalised works that will be delivered to your hotel the following day, giving you tha chance to take a unique art piece and memory from Peru. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided tour of Cusco, which was the capital of the Inca Empire. The tour starts at the Convent of Santo Domingo, built over the Inca temple of Coricancha, one of the most important venues dedicated to the cult of the sun. The ancient chronicles say that its walls were covered with gold. Then, head to the Cathedral, the most imposing monument of Main Square. Then continue towards the Cusco hills where the fortress of Sacsayhuamán is located, whose imposing walls offer an impressive panoramic view of Cusco. After breakfast at the hotel, your journey to Machu Picchu begins with a train ride Aguas Calientes, also known as "Machu Picchu Pueblo", the last stop before entering the most important archaeological site in Peru. In Aguas Calientes you will find a craft market, restaurants and, for those who prefer to spend the night at the foot of the mountain and climb early in the morning, hotels for all budgets. Take a short bus ride up to Machu Picchu, the architectural and engineering masterpiece that once served as a sanctuary and refuge for the Inca ruler Pachacútec. Machu Picchu, which means "Old Mountain", is a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site and one of the seven new wonders of the world.
