Arrive at Chileka International Airport, Blantyre and be met by your guide. Transfer to Satemwa Tea Estate for your first night's accommodation. Located just 40km outside Blantyre, in Thyolo District, Satemwa Tea Estate is Malawi's first fair-trade estate. Satemwa was founded in 1923 by Maclean Kay, a Scottish immigrant and former rubber planter, and has since been passed down from generation to the current 3rd generation of the family. The estate is home to Huntingdon House; originally a family home to the founders of the estate. The house has been tastefully refurbished to offer 5 unique rooms, each individually decorated to reflect the quirks and character of this grand residence. Each area of the house has a story of its own from the original children’s nursery to the resident priest’s quarters and private Chapel. After a delicious breakfast at Huntingdon House, you will descend further into the Lower Shire River Valley before heading west to Majete Wildlife Reserve and your accommodation is at Mkulumadzi Lodge. Majete is truly off-the-beaten-track; a forested wilderness destination offering a sense of total serenity, far away from the tourist crowds—and with an incredible conservation success story. The reserve, completely depleted of animals ten years ago, now contains an abundance of wildlife due to enhanced law enforcement and successful community engagement. Majete has flourished so much in the last few years that excess wildlife has been moved to populate other parks within the Malawi. After your breakfast and morning activity at Mkulumadzi Lodge in Majete, travel by road to Liwonde National Park and arrive in time for lunch There is a wealth of wildlife to be seen in Liwonde, and sightings here are very genuine, wild and pristine. Dominated by the sluggish Shire River and its lush fringing vegetation, the park evokes every romantic notion of untrammeled Africa, especially at night, when the air resonates with the uninhibited chirruping of frogs and grunting of hippos. Sustaining over 400 species of birds, the largest elephant population in the country and a flourishing population of plains game mammals, this is a wonderful safari destination. Located on a large open plain stretching towards the Shire River in Liwonde National Park, you will and Kuthengo Camp nestled among Fever trees and Baobabs. With resident fish eagles nesting in these Baobabs, you will be woken to ‘Africa’s voice’ calling as you rise in this wild and natural paradise. Kuthengo has four spacious and modern safari tents which are all unsuited, each with a bathtub and an outdoor shower. After your breakfast and morning activity at Pumulani Lodge, travel to Senga-Bay and your overnight accommodation is at Blue Zebra Island Lodge. The Blue Zebra Island Lodge is situated in the Lake Malawi National Park on Nankoma Island, which forms part of the Marelli Island Archipelago, and is a UNESCO World Heritage site (whc.unesco.org). The three islands are home to a vast array of fresh water species, including some of the most rare and colorful in the world. The island supports diverse oral and fauna and are a bird watchers paradise. The Fig Tree Bar offers a large selection of drinks and cocktails including some Malawian specialties. The lodge also boasts a lake view conference facility and a private entertaining area for business events. Tucked in and around the resort are several comfortable and secluded lounges in which one can relax and admire Lake Malawi’s glorious views.
