After the morning activity and breakfast at The Makokola Retreat, travel to catch your boat, off to Mumbo Island.
Mumbo Island Camp offers an exclusive escape on an otherwise deserted island in Lake Malawi National Park. Surrounded by nature, guests can enjoy ample tranquility and barefoot luxury
during their stay. Excellent kayaking, snorkeling and SCUBA facilities enable active guests to explore granitic islands in a fresh-water Rift Valley Lake that are teaming with a thriving cichlid population.
Mumbo Island Camp is located within an exclusive concession area, guaranteeing privacy and offering guests the chance to rejuvenate and unwind in surroundings that resemble a tropical island paradise. The camp is constructed entirely of timber, thatch and canvas, and adheres to the strictest principles of Eco architecture. The camp has six large safari tents which are fully furnished and have their own shady viewing deck and a private hammock. Other infrastructure is limited to a dining area, bar and water sports gazebo.
Unlike most island destinations in the region, Mumbo Island has never been populated and is still in its natural state. This, together with the focus on non-motorized water sports, makes Mumbo Island ideal for active outdoor enthusiasts. At the same time, the remoteness and serene surroundings of the island means that there is no shortage of opportunities for relaxation.
