(Regular flight + 245 km – about 5 hrs) In due time, transfer to the airport to take a flight to Toliary; upon arrival, meet with the driver in direction to Ranohira; lunch at your own arrangement; arrival in hotel at the end of the afternoon; dinner and overnight at the hotel Le Relais de la Reine (3*) or similar. RANOHIRA > TOLIARY
(245 km - about 5 hrs) Departure before the breakfast (at 05.30) to find Madagascar Patridge, Benson’s Rock Thrush; then back to the hotel for the breakfast; continuation of the itinerary towards Toliary, crossing the region of the sapphire seekers; stop to visit the Zombitse-Vohibasia Park, created to preserve the primary deciduous forest and its many inhabitants, including almost half of all endemic bird species of Madagascar like the White Broad Owl, Apert’s Tretraka, Cuckoo roller; Giant Coua, Coquerel’s Coua; lunch at your own arrangement (picnic lunch recommended); after the visit, go out the park and continuation of drive to Mahaboboka to find Madagascar Sandgrouse then continuing until Andatabo to see Red-Shouldered Vanga, Verreaux’s Coua; arrival at the hotel at the end of the day; dinner and overnight at Moringa Hotel (3*) or similar. Transfers by boat. Morning breakfast at the hotel; transfer to the port of Toliary and boarding on boat; crossing of 45mn to reach the village of Anakao; it is a village of Vezo fishermen, both wild and picturesque; an enchanting biodiversity many species of birds, including Littoral Rock-Trush and other species of birds will be found; after the visit, crossing back by boat to Toliary; meet with the driver and continuing to Ifaty; stop at Belalanda lake to see Humblot’s Heron and others water birds; after a little stop, joining the hotel; accommodation at Nautilus Hotel (3*) or similar; dinner and overnight in hotel. - BEST TIME FOR BIRDWATCHING: SEPTEMBER TO NOVEMBER
- At other times, only a small number of species and individuals will be seen
- Location: Isalo and Zombitse-Vohibasia National Parks, Anakao, Ifaty, Toliary
- Madagascar southwest contains a mix of mainland dry thorny woodlands, gallery forests, limestone caves with freshwater springs, marshlands, mangroves, sand dunes and beaches, coral reefs. The level of endemism is exceptionally high, with 85% for plants and over 95% for mammals (notably lemurs) and birds.
- ROADS CONDITIONS: Roads not maintained and in poor condition in some parts.
- EXCURSIONS: Not difficult but in the reserves a good physical shape is required, considering the 3-4 hours of walking.
- CLOTHING: Light, with some warm garments for the cool season or altitude. Provide K-way or raincoat in case of rain.
- NOT TO FORGET: Sunscreen, mosquito repellent, hat, sunglasses, walking shoes.
- MOBILE PHONES: Away from the towns, sometimes the network is absent.
